We Go Camping

A camping we went! May 22nd at 8:00 AM, we met at the school. We loaded our gear, and headed off for Camp Coles Trip in Stafford, VA.

We got there and set up our camp. Each patrol had a glen shelter to stay in.

We had some free time to play, explore and hang out. Some of the girls and parents played kick-ball.

We made English muffin pizzas in our box ovens for lunch. We also had walking salad, and for desert, shaggy dogs (our version!). Yummy.

After we cleaned up, we started working on try-its. We made kites, boomerangs, rockets, pinwheels and tops (Movers Try-It). We made photo badges and decorated canvas bags (Art-to-Wear Try-It). We made rain gauges, weather vanes and water evaporators (Outdoor Happenings Try-it). We also planted seeds and made "grassheads" (Plants Try-It). We were busy.

Just as we were finishing, we got a nice big thunderstorm. As soon as the thunder moved on, we cranked some tunes and danced the rain away. That was so much fun!

And it worked too! It stopped raining in time for us to get dinner started. We made a fire (the small stuff was wet, but we got it going!). Foil dinners, tossed salad, bread and football pudding were on the menu.

We cleaned up and built the fire up for our campfire. Starting with songs, then skits, we ended up with s'mores - of course! As the last s'more was being gobbled up, the skies opened up once again. We can take a hint ... we went to bed!

Sunday was bright and clear. (After a very long night... rain, sick kids, sore throats.. ). We ate breakfast, cleaned up and then had a SWAP ring. We put our hats on the benches, everyone dropped a SWAP in each hat. This is always a favorite activity.

Then the troop hiked to Shark tooth Beach. There our 3rd graders led our Scout's own. (Mrs. Beth stayed behind at camp - she wasn't feeling well.) On the way back, the troop learned the song "Weave", which will be one contribution to our Bridging Ceremony.

The girls came back to the camp shouting the troop's cadence. Then they sang "Weave" to their leader. (Of course, she had tears running down her face in short order!).

We had lunch, and packed up. Then we hit the road home.

Final first aid count...
