Pee Wee Workout

Whew! On March 6, we got our bodies moving and our hearts pumping at the Pee Wee Workout. There were 8 Brownie troops working out and sweating that morning.

After stretching and warming up, we really got hopping (and jumping, and kicking, and jogging...). A 30+ minute aerobic workout really had 80+ Brownies and their (poor) leaders out of breath, but pumped up.

At the end of our cool-down, we added all the ingredients that the troops brought to make a healthy snack. We sat for a few minutes to enjoy our yummy trail mix. (workout mix?)

We then broke up into 6 smaller groups to visit stations with different activities.

Station #1 was "About Me". We filled in information in our books: Our name, address, age and birthday. We got weighed and measured. Then we drew pictures of ourselves.

At Station #2, we learned about our hearts and circulation. We learned how to take our pulse... make the Girl Scout sign, then put those three fingers flat on the side of your neck under your chin. We made a circulation person showing the major veins and arteries and the heart.

Station #3 was all about fingerprints. Did you know that nobody's fingerprints are just like yours? It's true! At this station we made fingerprint art. We had some very creative pictures.

At Station #4, we each made and exercise wheel using four different exercises and a spinner. Then we did the exercises on our wheels. We also have an exercise log in our book, so we can record what exercises we do later.

Station #5 had two body puzzles. We split into two groups to put the puzzles together. We learned some of our many body parts. Then, the two teams had a race to put the puzzles together. It was a close race... one team had a problem placing the femur (look up where this bone is!)

We went to Station #6 to play follow the leader. Each girl was given a number; when her number was called, she had to lead us in a movement; we had to stay in a circle in our station area. Whenever her number was called, she had to do the same movement. Then we tried to remember the movement before she could show us. One girl called a number, then that next girl called the next number until each girl had called another's number. We had some very interesting movements we were led through.

Before we called it a day, all the troops joined together. We all sang happy birthday to Ms. Ruth, who led us through our activities. Then we had one last activity. We had a Zoo Walk. Animal pictures were shown to us, then we had to become the animal on the card. We had spiders, fish, elephants, crabs, snails turtles... you get the idea.

We had lots of fun. We also earned two Try-its for all our hard work:
